The CMA CGM Foundation and Rotary Egypt joined forces to provide food aid to families in need during Ramadan

.

For Ramadan, the CMA CGM Foundation provided 1,300 food parcels to 6,500 people in need in Cairo and Alexandria. This distribution was made possible thanks to the cooperation of Rotary Egypt – District 2451 and the mobilization of 60 CMA CGM Group employees.

An operation to combat food insecurity in Egypt during Ramadan
In Cairo, the distribution took place in the underprivileged neighborhood of Ezbet Khairallah, which is home to 3,000 families living in extreme poverty. In Alexandria, efforts focused on the neighborhood of El Gomrok, where 2,200 families live in extreme poverty.

The CMA CGM Group and Rotary Egypt – District 2451 deployed their volunteers throughout the month of Ramadan to prepare and distribute this essential food aid. CCIS, one of CMA CGM’s subsidiaries, was also mobilized to transport the parcels to the distribution sites. This logistical and human commitment demonstrates the CMA CGM Foundation’s determination to support communities in need and bring tangible comfort to Egyptian families during the Ramadan season.

Tariq Zaghloul, CEO of CMA CGM Egypt, said, “This operation by the CMA CGM Foundation, in partnership with Rotary Egypt, provided food parcels to thousands of families in Cairo and Alexandria who suffer from food insecurity. We would like to express our gratitude to our staff members whose tireless efforts ensured the success of this project. Whether it is during the month of Ramadan or throughout the year, we are committed to giving back to the communities in which we work and live.”

Ayman Nazih, Governor of Rotary Egypt – District 2451, is enthusiastic about working with the CMA CGM Foundation. He said, “Since the founding of the first Rotary Club in Egypt in 1929, we have been committed to finding radical solutions to the most pressing problems and achieving our goals of development and social service. Our partnership with the CMA CGM Foundation is a strategic collaboration that strengthens our efforts to improve the lives of those most affected by extreme poverty. This is just the beginning, and we look forward to seeing more projects that benefit the community in Egypt.

The CMA CGM Foundation’s commitment to helping people facing food insecurity
In response to the increase in food insecurity, the CMA CGM Foundation has established a number of partnerships with key players in the food aid sector in France (Restos du Cœur, Banques Alimentaires, Secours Populaire, Secours Catholique), Lebanon (Mariam’s Kitchen), and the rest of the world (UNICEF, Salvation Army, Action Against Hunger). In 2023, thanks to the Foundation’s support, millions of meals were distributed across the world.
