H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat joins SwissCham Gala Event alongside ABB’s Centenary in Egypt Celebration, Strengthening Swiss-Egyptian Economic Collaboration and Women’s Empowerment.
ABB’s 100-years anniversary celebrations in Egypt, came across the company’s participation in the SwissCham Gala Event, a key annual event bringing together influential leaders from both private and public sectors. The gathering served as an opportunity for ABB to highlight its century-long commitment to technological progress, economic growth, and inclusive leadership, while reinforcing the strong partnership between Switzerland and Egypt.
The event brought together a distinguished audience, including H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning and Economic Development; Eng. Mohamed Shimi, Minister of Public Business Sector; Dr. Sameh El-Hefny, Minister of Civil Aviation; Andreas Baum, Swiss Ambassador to Egypt; Kamal Abdel Malek, President of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce, and Amr Moussa, former Foreign Minister of Egypt and former Secretary-General of the Arab League.
One of the evening’s highlights was the “Swiss Business Leadership Visions” speech, which included prominent figures such as Mr. Ahmed Hammad, Chairman of ABB Egypt.
Ahmed Hammad, Chairman of ABB Egypt and board member of the SwissCham, delivered the keynote speech, mentioning ABB’s historical contributions, technological leadership, and commitment to women’s empowerment and inclusive leadership. A short speech was followed by an introductory video of ABB and its contribution locally and globally.
He then expressed his gratitude to the Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Egypt for organizing the event and thanked the Swiss ambassador for his kind hospitality.
Highlighting ABB’s long journey in Egypt, Hammad noted that this milestone “ABB participated in numerous projects, including the New Administration Capital, New Alamein, and most of the solar and wind power plants, including “Benban” the largest solar power plant in Aswan, and the industrial zone, which reflected the deep strategic cooperation with the Egyptian government in supporting and implementing national projects.
Moreover, the Chairman stressed that ABB’s factory in 10th of Ramadan City serves as a regional clean energy hub, supplying global markets while developing local expertise. “We proudly deliver advanced technology, not only across the Middle East and Africa, but also South America and Europe, including Germany, the heart of industry. All these high-standard products are made by Egyptian hands, powered by local talent and guided by a global vision,” he stated.
“We remain confident in Egypt’s future, which is why we’re sustaining our investment commitment at current levels. We have invested through past few years over EGP 15 billion to maximize our industrial footprint and enhance the local component in our product, achieving 79% local content,” the Chairman added.
Notably, the SwissCham Gala Event 2025, held in partnership with the Bishara Foundation, focused on leadership and women’s empowerment. Hammad affirmed ABB’s commitment to gender diversity, “We continuously strive to create a workplace that nurtures female talent in leadership and engineering, empowering women to become influential leaders in technology and engineering, both locally and globally.”
